This should work 100% of the time. It has for me for the 80 tapes I have had it label. When I add new tapes, I wait 5 minutes for my 24 slot changer to stop doing inventory then after that I issue update slots since I changed tapes. This is actually normal behavior. As for crashing bacula-sd, I have never had that happen on a label barcodes.
