I have one client that I am backing up through an SSH tunnel. This turns out to be quite unreliable; the connection errors out after a while. Sometimes it lasts a whole hour, but in my most recent attempt, the connection collapsed after only 7 minutes. I have never been able to complete a full backup, although I usually come close. Now I am trying to track down exactly what is actually happening.
In the log file below, it looks as if 8 minutes into the job, the director can no longer communicate with the fd, and nearly at the same time, the SD also no longer hears from the FD. Is my interpretation correct that this means that the SSH tunnel has disappeared? bacula-dir and bacula-sd both run on the local machine; bacula-fd is on the remote machine. 16-Mar 12:25 local-dir JobId 1730: BeforeJob: run command "/usr/local/sbin/nagiosscheduledowntime remote.client.com" 16-Mar 12:25 local-dir JobId 1730: BeforeJob: run command "/usr/local/sbin/sshbacula remote.client.com" 16-Mar 12:25 local-dir JobId 1730: BeforeJob: Starting SSH-tunnel to remote.client.com... 16-Mar 12:26 local-dir JobId 1730: Start Backup JobId 1730, Job=remote.client.com.2009-03-16_12.25.03 16-Mar 12:26 local-dir JobId 1730: Using Device "eSATADisk3" 16-Mar 12:26 remote.client.com-fd JobId 1730: ClientRunBeforeJob: run command "/usr/local/sbin/backupdbs" 16-Mar 12:26 remote.client.com-fd JobId 1730: ClientRunBeforeJob: Backing up information_schema into /var/local/mysqlbackups/information_schema.mysql 16-Mar 12:26 remote.client.com-fd JobId 1730: ClientRunBeforeJob: Backing up mysql into /var/local/mysqlbackups/mysql.mysql 16-Mar 12:26 localsd-sd JobId 1730: Labeled new Volume "remote.client.com-fd_remote.client.com_20090315195025_Full.bacula" on device "eSATADisk3" (/misc/BACKUP3). 16-Mar 12:26 localsd-sd JobId 1730: Wrote label to prelabeled Volume "remote.client.com-fd_remote.client.com_20090315195025_Full.bacula" on device "eSATADisk3" (/misc/BACKUP3) 16-Mar 12:26 local-dir JobId 1730: Max Volume jobs exceeded.
