I use EAs for our samba samba shares (store dos attributes, ea
support, map acl inherit).

# getfattr 164_971FK019_20071029_035200.tgz
# file: 164_971FK019_20071029_035200.tgz
user.DOSATTRIB

The attributes can also be backed up with 'getfattr -R'.
