I don't have a big comparison but I can say that I have a few licences
of veritas backup executive that I no longer use after I found bacula.
Basically with veritas I was tired of the extortion (all the needed
addons, need to buy server licenses for windows workstations and need
to upgrade when a new version of windows came out). And also I was
tired of the very poor free user support especially when the problems
I was having were their fault.

With bacula I have significantly better free user support. There is no
extortion - I can backup open files and databases and use an
autochanger without being extorted for addons. Also bacula gives me
the ability to backup what I want and a lot more flexibility in where
I can have my storage versus where the backup program runs.
