Condition variables don't work correctly in some cases, leading to
pthread_cond_wait hanging forever.  Sorry, I don't know the bug numbers, but
it took several attempts to before NPTL had fully working condition variables
and unfortunately Red Hat released a broken version in the /lib/tls directory.
