Well if 'list media' only showed the 1 volume that's all Bacula knows about.

The *unknown* means the Bacula director was unable to work out which 
volume will be used for those backups *when you ran the command*.

In my experience, this generally happens when there are none available 
for use because they're all full and haven't become eligible for 
recycling due to their configured retention periods.

That's what it comes down to yes.

If you are happy to lose all the backups you've written to that tape 
until now you can purge it and start over again.

But if you want to keep your latest backups for a while, then you would 
want to get a new tape and backup to it instead.
