The manual is big, but it is well written. I obviously need to spend 
more time reading.

Not sure yet. Maybe a couple dozen GB or so.

Yes, once I run an iteration of the whole process, I will need to do a 
drill with full data recovery from DVD. The most challenging scenario 
is, of course, the backup server itself has crashed. All other scenarios 
appear simple, it's just this one that seems unclear to me yet. I've a 
chicken-and-egg problem with recovering the MySQL database from the 
DVDs, since it appears that I need it to run Bacula to begin with.
