I usually prefer one pool for incremental, differential and full backups. Well, I should say I set up exactly one pool for each set of volumes with identical retention times... For easier management (and to make it easier to understand) I also usually set all backup sets to similar retention times. (Unless, of course, there are really good reasons to keep certain server's data for longer than the other's.) As a result - the latter. One pool for all servers. Unless there's a good reason to do things differently. When all backups go to the same physical storage device (disk, disk subsystem) I see no reasons to separate backups into separate pools - Bacula can manage the volume use and reuse and deciding which volumes to use for a restore good enough; if I really need to copy a set of backups I can query the catalog to decide which volmes I need. > Currently I am using multiple pools, the create individual back up files > labeled (for example) Server1_full-001, Server2_full-001, Server3_full-001. Too much trouble for me... I trust Bacula to manage the catalog well enough. > But I was thinking about just appending all jobs to the same pool. > > Your thoughts? I prefer the simplest setup, and for me simple is 'define as few items as possible and let Bacula handle the rest'.
