The tape was positioned somewhere in the middle. Baculaknew the tape 
position to be correct for appending, and it knew it cold use that tape.

After reloading it, the tape was positioned at the beginning, where 
Bacula requires its tape label.

Bacula knw it could append, so it simply started writing - it did not 
position the tape to the correct position.

As a resilt, you have overwritten the tape label and the first blocks of 
data on the tape, rendering the first jobs on that tape unusable.

You did something stupid :-)

But I understand that the current version of Bacula locks the tape eject 
/ drive door of your tape drive if possible.

There is only one sequence of actions to clean a tape drive: Wait until 
the device is free, unmount, load cleaning cartridge, load regular tape 
again, mount.

This could be improved, hence Adams and my project suggestion.
