Right now I'm too tired to carefully read thru all your confs and the
messages, but as a short comment, I have the same autoloader (1x10 w/
VXA320) that runs nicely out of the box with 1.38.11 on FC5. There was no
need to modify mtx-changer script, for example. I'm using Adaptec 29160 scsi
card. So your hardware has been found to be compatible with this Bacula
version. Of course, Debian vs. FC5 may cause some differences.

Have you checked the firmware versions on both the drive and autoloader? I
have versions A10D for autoloader, and 3204 for the tape drive. This system
has been up and running for appr. 4 months now, previously I was using VXA-2
standalone drive, it also worked smoothly.

You could try configuring Bacula without autoloader, and temporarily use
VXA-320 as a standalone drive (just change tapes manually from the front
panel) to isolate the problem -this way you could see if it is about the
drive itself, or the drive/autoloader combination.

Does the storage daemon have proper rights to access the autoloader (in
addition to the drive)? I think it may cause strange errors, if the storage
daemon can not actually write to the autoloader (the robot).

Although I said "works out of the box", the tapes don't work out of the box,
if I remember correctly. You need to manually load each tape for the very
first time, and write an EOF after rewinding the tape -otherwise Bacula gets
confused with autoloader. I think this detail isn't Exabyte-spesific
behaviour.
