Hello,

I have been happily using Bacula to write data to file storage for a few
weeks now. I would like, at the end of each week or month, to move those
backups to a tape drive. Ideally, my wishes would be served by the
ability to migrate a set of backups from one pool to another. I have
read that this feature is planned but not yet implemented.
In the meantime, I thought that I could accomplish something close by
defining a job that writes the file volumes that Bacula creates onto a
tape volume. I realize that this would complicate restore jobs and may
very well give me a headache from dealing with the recursive logic, but
despite that, I still wonder if it is safe/feasible. Of course I don't
anticipate having to restoring from tape with any frequency but I'd like
to make sure the concept is sound before trying it.

It is important in my situation that the bulk of the data be retained on
hard disk for a period of time. It is also important to have a portable
archived copy on tape afterwards. But making an additional connection to
the clients to pull the data a second time just for the tape is very
undesirable.

Has anyone set up anything similar using Bacula and learned any lessons
that you would be willing to pass along?

Thanks!
-Jake
