Oh, I tend to agree. At Moore I bought a nice expensive 2-drive,
80-tape AIT library, and it kicked serious ass. But this is for me, at
home, on a budget.

Actually, to be honest, one of the things I was trying to do here was
find out for myself just how reliable DVD backups were. So far I've
found only that I can't do them (yet). 

I might be interested in hearing some of those stories. Or at least a
summary.
