I doubt very much that Bacula can destroy a tape. It uses only normal system calls. However, from the ouput listing you included, it *appears* that you are using "Offline on Unmount = yes". This directive is most likely causing your tape drive to "lock up" after the tape is ejected. It requres either a power off or a "load" to get it going again. The exact behavior depends a lot on the drive.
