Hello everyone,
I am trying to set up one (or more) Tru64 systems with both FD and SD, because these systems can see the same tape device through a fiber channel, so data do not need to go through the network.
There are 3 items that I would like to point out:
1 - There is not a switch that allow the building of FD and SD (or SD only). I added "stored" in the --enable-client-only Makefile and I was able to build stored, bls, extract and bcopy bcopy, but not (obviously) bscan and (less obviously) btape, which could be useful also for a storage only system.
I think it could be useful and not so heavy to provide a clean way for a SD/FD or SD only system.
2 - Maybe there could be a shortcut to completely avoid the network when FD and SD are on the same systems. Now I think it is not possible to use "localhost" (I beleave we must give an SD IP address to bacula-dir that must be valid for the director and FD.
3 - Using fiber channel the same tape device can be seen by more SD systems, so it would be nice to have a lock mechanism (in the director?), so one system could wait another one to release the tape before starting its job.
I am still testing this environment using 1.36.3 (even if I compiled Tru64 5.1B static SD and FD), so I cannot guarantee anything, but if someone is interested on these I can send them or put them in some accessible place.
Thanks to people who make all this possible - Kern in primis.
