What I meant was: Do you always get the request to change tapes, or does
bacula change the tapes sometimes, and sometimes not?

Usually... so sometimes it does work automatically?

It usually works for a couple of times, then it stops and only works again after restarting the director.

That's not good.

Especially as it's the director you need to restart - the DIR doesn't touch the changer itself.

You can run the daemons with debug outputcapturing by, for example, adding output redirection to the startup script, and later submit a command like "setdebug level=400 dir" or "...400 storage=<a storage name at the SD you want to monitor>"

At debug level 400, IIRC, you see a detailed report of the tape changing process in the SD log. At about the same time, you should find something in the DIR's log that has to do with selecting the next volume, and then mounting it.
