Depending on the setting of "Use Any Volume" it might ask for the old
tape, but would also use the new one.
Kern told me that this directive is on its way out due to some
troublesome problems with the algorithms or something like that. I'd
take a look on the list -- not sure if I interpreted him correctly, but
those are my 2c.
