Hi Kern,

Could you tell me where? It is a rather obvious concept, but I haven't seen anything really quite the same. I'd be interested to see what similar "projects" are doing.
i thought of redhat for example, although this is something different, as they keep one version
free of charge.

actually i cant see any difference between this licence concept which asks you to buy a licence if you want to make profit with the
software and "classical" commercial software which also allows private
users to use their software for free...

Well, I started what I consider a classical commercial software company, and what I am proposing is *totally* different, so I don't understand your statement.
actually i dont really know what _your_ proposal is. i just visited the webpage you mentioned
in your mail.

i have to admit i have not really thought it through, but what i think
enabled
the great success of open source was software like linux and mysql which
was from
the beginning also free for commercial ideas...

Although BSD and other licenses are free for commercial users, I wouldn't say that is the case for GPL. For a commercial software company as opposed to a service company, GPL is somewhat of a nightmare. It is true they don't have to pay for it, but it comes at a heavy price -- all your software that "touches" or "uses" GPL software must be GPL or otherwise Open Software as well.

thats right. if you want to use the software itself to make new software and you want to make money by seeling it, GPL is indeed a nightmare. perhaps i should read what your idea is, could you provide a place for me to find it ? as a guess, are you going to do something like mysql ? you can use mysql for free even commercially, but if you want to use the software in your software, you have to pay for it ?

regards,
philipp
