I don't understand that. It must be available. Debian is Linux, and the Linux
mt has defblksize. If
mt -f /dev/nht0 defblksize 0
fails, please try
mt -f /dev/nht0 defblksize -1
You must run as root to do this.

In that case you must make one. One way is to do:
/dev/MAKEDEV ht
/dev/MAKEDEV nht
