I really like the #2 design, and this this is an improvement over the current. However. The purpose of having a long bar is to allow a higher range of accuracy. I believe a vlc like design is best. It's simple and is the fastest use of such space. The design has also been proven by the "438 117 142 total downloads". I'd also add a cog at the other end and center the dropdown menu as well. Tw's sexy design makes me want to touch it, but I can't. His design would be better for a touch screen tho, so.
