I think the latter paraphrase for FS is better. We are talking about
situations, where you cannot solve the problem with the existing feature
set. So the options you have is add new features or change the problem.
I believe both options are essential tools in any software developer's
repertoire.

The problem with complexity and general ickyness is that they won't go
away. If the framework doesn't want them, they're bound to pop up in the
user applications :)
