... we finally have a snapshot! No, I really mean it! We have one!
Well, we will soon have one :)
This snapshot is probably not ready for full scale use, so we'd like
you guys (autoconf@) to use it as much as you can for your own
projects so that we can catch the sharp edges that remain. During
August and September we will fix the issues you will report, and
probably have a couple of more widely announced snapshots before 2.50.
We can have 2.50 in September, or at worst October if autothings go
wrong.
Please, give a try to autoreconf and autoupdate, they are to be
evaluated too. The relationship with CVS Automake and 1.4 is also a
valuable feedback.
The test suite will surely fail if you don't have a sane $CC as first
cc in your path, that's a bug of the test suite, and it will also fail
if you don't run GNU sed or some good sed. Just don't pay attention
to this. But run the test suite on as many machines as you can.
Oh, I almost forgot: patches are appreciated :)

and then change configure.in and NEWS to 2.49b and check it in?
