Just do that, and tomorrow there are several new Autoconves here and
there :)  I no longer think there will ever be a new major release.
We have to live with what we have, keeping the maximum backward
compatibility, pushing the system to its limit, and maybe someday a
major release will be needed because we no longer can go forward.

But I see no reason to keep such ``features'' (the old --host
etc. handling) in Autoconf.  The longer we wait to make the jump, the
more unhappy users there are, the more scripts will have to be
changed.  Worse yet, Alexandre seems to believe we should do several
small incompatible changes, which doesn't seem right to me: we should
change it once and only once, to minimize the workload we impose to
the authors of tools running configure.
