Yes, it is true, in the past this topic was discussed and a tool
similar to `update-alternatives` was discarded. Maybe it would be
interesting to take up that topic again, not so much for the tool but
for deciding which binaries are “reserved”.

In any case and for now if we stick to Arch's pure and simple rules,
the correct package name is edit, the binary should be `edit` and
should be marked as conflicting with all packages that can create a
`/usr/bin/edit` (which is what is already done).
