Thanks for your response.  You're of course right, in general, but I was
hoping that this change helps to detect normal LaTeX errors and cure the
current situation we have a little, at least.  I pushed that change.

P.S. I also had a look at bug#70807 again[1], I still don't have a clue
how to fix it.  Do you have an idea?
