I too felt the robo sounds a lil old school. but then I navigate my ipod to listen "Rock that body" by black eyed peas, the most current in this genre, and teh little old Imogen Heap-"Hide and seek"..I dont see a lotaa difference. ofcourse we cant expect an "owl city" kinda music which may not support the character of a Robot!!Rahman might have done justfication based on the character but the movie has to support it.
my favoroties: Pudhiya manidha Kadhal annukal Irumbile oru idhayam Kilimanjaro Arima Chtti dance Im havin a hard time to get on groove with "Boom Boom Robo". the rap part is very low, the 1960s tune(siki mukki, automatic kara) of the song kinda dragging in bwteeen a fast pacy robo song..there are some good parts of it ofcourse!!
