Hi friends,

It's really refreshing to hear Chinnamma in a voice other than
Sukhwinder's. Even though I don't understand the Tamil lyrics(the
Hindi lyrics by Sukhwinder didn't make any sense anyway), the Tamil
song in both male/female voice is a great welcome.

However, it's missing the punch Hindi Chinnamma has towards the end-
around the 5:00 minute mark. The, what sounds like Taiko, drums
towards the 5:00 minute mark onward and especially at around 5:11 is
definitely one of the highlights of the Hindi version.

I always wonder if Rahman stores all the templates for all of his
songs, anticipating the he may have to use it again. He must be adding
the vocals of the singers as a very last layer, which can replaced by
other singers(different language), if necessary. Whatever the logic,
I'm sure he had to develop it early on in his career when Roja, Bombay
and others were being dubbed in so many languages. It's always
interesting to listen to Rahman's dubbed or remade songs because he
may modify the song in some way. I try hard to identify these
changes, and there are definitely some changes in the Tamil Chinnama,
noticeably;
- The echo effect with the chorus in the beginning
- The sound is better, more crisper
- Missing the punch towards the end.
- Sukwinder's voice seems to be have been retained for the very last
"shara rara rara"
- Missing the footsteps at the end.

I can't decide if I like the Hindi one better or the Tamil one, I
enjoy them both thoroughly.

regards,
Wasim.
