Chord, Ayudha Ezuthu was a major hit as a musical in the South.
Khuda Afiz/Goodbye Nanba was essentially a 'Jazz' number by ARR (as
mentioned by ARR himself) brilliantly mixed with Techno.
If you leave out the high-pitch notes sung by the Male, you can identify the
simple & neat Jazz tune of the song.
There lies Rahman's genius.
Another song where Rahman made a complete makeover is "Saathiya/ Pachai
Nirame" from Saathiya.
He mentioned that he was trying very hard to make the  song a bit more fast
paced & energetic. thus came up the high pitched ,beat filled
"Saathiyaaaa../ Sakiyaeee" piece in the song.
in fact he has said that this song had one of his hardest works put in :)

btw, there is no "final" verdict for any ARR composition :)
