Hi Madhu, A symphony is but another way of expressing your musical talent. It is not the ultimate test or yardstick based on which you appraise a musician and jugde him as as great or mediocre. After all it is a western concept as is the use of synth sounds in music. And ther term "pure music" varies with perspective.
Because a musician uses synth sounds, you cannot call his music impure. For it is also another aspect of modern music. There is no limit to exploration in music,so it need not always be the sad violin with the quartet supporting it. Do not misconstrue me,but I find your notions about the so called "complete composer" sophistic.By your logic,if ARR is not a complete composer because he hasn't done a western classical symphony, then neither is Beethoven for he hasn't given a carnatic "kutcheri"!!. Maybe ARR is the second Asian composer to have performed at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and maybe the Londoners,or ARR for that reason were not very pleased about how it went, but that does not diminish the versatility of the composer. Remember,ARR is one of the very few composers who changes with times, yet retains his inimitable style.Agreed every Tom,Dick and Harry today can compose synthesized music, but you don't get an "ekla chalo" or a "noor un ala" from them every single album they churn out. ARR has till date explored almost countless genres in music, from jazz to folk to asian underground and this heterogeneity is unsurpassed by any other musician today. I can understand you have a taste for symphonic chamber-like music, and mind you,ARR is an accomplished western classical composer as well, evident in his early days in Thiruda thiruda or lately Bose, the Vanessa Mae album ..its kind of juvenile listing out all this to you. Anyways, welcome to the group.I can assure you there will be lotsa replies to your mail,a number of which will be censorious,so dont mind.Enjoy your stay here...
