Agree in principle with everything except the 'live with it' part. Thats something I'm not ready to do. Our ONLY way of protest against a outdated, archaic, forced upon system is to cause them monetory loss, which will ultimately make them take notice and think about us, for a change. But I do conceed that P2Ps and Torrents did not start with this principle. It was indeed meant to be a platform for piracy and free lunch. But, isnt it apt that we use the same thing as our weapon in these times?
And, do you really think if we go on listening to their side of the distribution story and continue buying their 6 track CDs, they'd be considerate enough to give us an online distribution model/ extra stuff in CDs? Why should they? They might, when we have real high speed affordable broadband access across the country. Then they might consider it as a decent business proposition. Till then, as you say, we need to 'live with it'. (Off topic: This same 'live with it' is getting questioned, with the massive Mumbai rain and havoc. People are wondering why they're paying taxes at all! And live with such apathy!) Around the world, with the impending doom caused by stuff like Bittorrent & eMule, media execs are scrambling to get ready alternative distribution channels for even movies and TV. A recent IPTV/ Triple Play round table in the valley attracted more than 350 folks - top guys from almost every name worth its salt - and the normal attendance for such seminars organized by TiE is around 65. If these people are not bothered enough to think about us, history has proven again and again that we force them to think about it. Yes, I do run itwofs.com. And I do not intend to differentiate/ explain plagiarism and the so-called piracy in my case. Thats besides the topic. The morality issue arises when I perhaps cannot afford to buy CDs and opt to download it free. I strongly believe I'm protesting here. Most of the cassettes I buy are still lying intact with thier wrapping yet t be opened. I could very well stop buying them too. And jack my iPod to my car stereo.
