Unfortunately neither of those modes worked. It sits at the part before it's cleared the large raspberry image, after the first two lines of booting output. Nothing changes from then on, it's unpingable even when left for a few minutes (so even then the network isn't initialised). Selecting
back to acpi only restored service.

Do you need me to connect it via serial? I didn't do that because
although it is usually booted headless, it does have x/xenocara installed
(and working). So was expecting hdmi output like with acpi.

Would serial output be helpful?
