There is no model "generic". If the codec is a known one and the driver has support codes, you may have models such as "auto", "3stack", etc. If the codec is unknown and handled by the generic codec parser (e.g. Conexant codec chip), no model is used at all. So the first thing you have to do is to check the codec chip via /proc/asound/card0/codec#* file(s). That is, the AC-power is plugged at the time when the driver is loaded. But the SPDIF is still not working on many machines due to lack of technical information.
