Your reply probably created a new thread because you replied to the
digest?, threading is done by subject line so you must reply to the
*message* not to the digest which is simply the days messages in one
email.

I personally dont like digest mode, it slows down the exchange of
messages and breaks threading, I have many mailing lists feeding into
my gmail account and use labels to filter on one mailing list at a
time.

My last piece of advice is do not top post!

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
