that was the case yes.

But now the problem is solved, it was much simpler:
someone connected the incoming
signal to analog-out instead of analog-in. 

conclusions:

Alsa is very complicated, if it was simpler, I would not have
toyed around with its complexity so long and tried more
important thinks earlier.

That the only oss input channel is named "dig1" despite
the analog input can be captured there is very misleading.
