Note that actually qjackctl is starting jackd which in turn generally
uses the "hw:0" device and this is *not* the "default" device which is
configured to be a dmix device. AFAIK on other cards, running jackd
will block non-jack applications as well because of this.

You can make OSS applications use "dmix" as well with the libaoss
hack. Generally starting realplayer as "aoss realplayer" will do the
right thing. You may need to define a pcm.dsp0 for this to work, see
"man aoss" for more info.
