Hi:

Am still trying to set up my new Gateway Desktop for Linux. I have
Sackware 10.2 with 2.4.31 and 2.6.13 kernels. Gateway says the sound
card is an Integrated Realtek ALC880. I followed Realtek links and
downloaded a 1.0.9 alsa driver which when I tried to use with 2.4.13 on
boot gave me messages about "cant get hda codec device" failed and
when I ran insmod, got error messages about unresolved symbols. I was
advised to get a real alsa driver and tried to set up 1.0.12rc1. The
module would not load because it could not find the driver and lists
some unresolved symbols. When I boot in 2.6.13 with slackware package
alsa 1.0.9 everything loads without error but the sound will not play.
 I did unmute.

I notice that the alsa drivers are in .....
/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel. The sound card is not a pci device.
Apparently it is integrated on the intel mother board. It is my
thought that I need a driver for the integrated card and a kernel that
will support this hardware.

Can anyone give me some further advice or thoughts as to alsa drivers
and 2.6 kernels?
