Bob,
check 'cdparanoia' - it's a program which rips CDs into .wav files with good
quality. And you may rip only a track or even less.
'aplay' is the "canonical" application used to test ALSA and "officially"
supported by ALSA developers. The counterpart of 'aplay' is 'arecord'.
Thanks for getting me over the cdrom hurdle. I tried the program and it copied part
of a cd for me. However when I tried to play it with aplay, it said it was playing
"Playing Wave 'cdda.wav' : Signed : 16 bit Little endian, Rate 44100 Stereo " but
still no sound.
When I booted up after setting up amixer and /etc/asound.state was read, it gave this
message " Failed to obtain info for control #15 ( Invalid argument ) amixer: Control
default snd_hctl_elem_info error: Invalid argument.
I attach a copy of my setup.
Thanks for any additional ideas you might have for me.
