And you know they are identical how? Since the /proc enteries are created
by the drivers, the evidence is against you.

As I said I believe that you are using different versions of the alsa
drivers in the two systems. As has been mentioned 
cat /proc/asound/version 
should give you a clue, but also compiling the alsa yourself and installing
the drivers should also give you a clue. It is of course possible that
Kubuntu has modified the alsa drivers, but I strongly doubt it.
