Hello, I have been having problems with the alsamixer.
It seems usb devices like my Edirol UA-5 don't have
mixer elements. Anyway, I've been having VERY VERY low
input from microphones when recording. I wondered if
it could be due to the alsamixer? I use CCRMA Audacity
to record. Even if I set my gain on the card to 7
(over that you experience loss in quality) I have to
amplify the recorded sound alot! Is this normal? My
microphones are Shure SM48 and Behringer Ultravoice.
Is it that Edirol preamps are crappy? Would I get
better results using an external mixer (lets say a
Mackie or Yamaha) for preamp (connected through RCA
type plugs)? Any help would be appreciated!

Oh, I just thought about this, is there any chance
that Linux will support multiple inputs devices (10
inputs or more) like the Mackie ONYX 1620-1640 and the
UA-1000?

Thanx, Phil
