It was true before ALSA 1.0.11.  (1.0.11 is not yet released, you have
to use a developer version, currently 1.0.11rc3.)

When configuring the alsa-driver package, use the
--enable-dynamic-minors parameter.  This requires a 2.6.x kernel and
udev.
