Clemens,

I just tried a brand new Fedora Core 4 install and it has 1.0.10rc3
installed and only 8 devices show up out of 20 installed. How do you get
1.0.11rc3 and how do you install it on FC4???

http://www.alsa-project.org/

As far as I know, configure --enable-dynamic-minors, make, make install
Make sure you have the kernel source installed for FC4.

Thanks,

I want to run 12 USB C-Media Electronics audio adapters. lsusb
recognizes all 12 but there are only 8 in /proc/asound/cards.

Looking around, it appears that there is a hard limit of 8 built into
the drivers. Is this true?

It was true before ALSA 1.0.11. (1.0.11 is not yet released, you have
to use a developer version, currently 1.0.11rc3.)

Is there a way to use ALSA with these adapters and play all 12?

When configuring the alsa-driver package, use the
--enable-dynamic-minors parameter. This requires a 2.6.x kernel and
udev.
