You should find the hotplug blacklist in /etc/hotplug.d or a similar
directory. Both audio & usb_midi are deprecated OSS modules and should not be
loaded. Adding these 2 modules on separate lines in the blacklist will
prevent them being loaded, and may well help avoid some problems.
4. I have tried "chkconfig alsa on" -- doesn't print anything, but has
no effect. Don't think this is a problem since ALSA IS running: the
sound card works fine, just the USB MIDI isn't.
Seems that the default install of Mandriva doesn't include hotplug. I
read somewhere that the udev stuff deprecates hotplug??
But, I just installed the hotplug package. There is now a file
/etc/hotplug/blacklist. There are 2 comment lines:
# audio, snd-usb-audio handle same class devices:
# snd-usb-audio b/c it breaks sound & alsa services else:
But no entries for this. Do I need to add to it? Or create a whitelist file?
