I *think* the problem has to do with 64/32 bit compatibility somewhere in the hdsp alsa software. Is yours a 64 bit userland? There are, I think, 64 bit hdsp drivers. Does a more vanilla soundcard work? My amd64 works fine with the mobo Intel chip. If you can get to that point, you'll know that alsa is working. > The module seems to load but I can't get any sound out of the thing. > When I bring up the HDSP mixer it loads but it says "null" in the title > bar, so I assume there's a problem with it loading. That's the name of the mixer's config file. IIRC, mine said "default" until I saved to something and set it to be the default file (File menu). It might be useful to bring up a terminal window (in X) and launch hdspmixer from there. It chats a little about what's going on as it comes up. > The volume control > on the task bar says that I have a -2353462764% sample rate. Can you bring up hdspconf? It tells what the card thinks the sample rate is. > When I > bring up the DSP settings I can sync to an external ADAT or SPDIF > signal. I was ecstatic to hear that click :-) I think it just means the RME woke up, though. > I've tried using alsaconf and it finds the card but when it tries to do > the test.wav file nothing comes out. I had to run hdspmixer to unmute the outputs. Can you run an mp3 player of some sort? Do the meters bounce in hdspmixer? Just channels 1 & 2 in the middle row? Those are digital outputs, by default; click on the box at the bottom and set them to "AN 1 + 2". And if you right click on either fader you can adjust them both. > I've read some old stuff about > having a .asoundrc file but I'm not sure how to make one. .asoundrc(s) aren't necessary at all for things to work. > Can anyone help me? I hope this might be of some help. Just hang in there and don't give up on Linux/RME.
