I'm trying to get ALSA working well with 5.1 logitech speakers on this system:
Debian testing 2.6.4 kernel A7N8X deluxe builtin sound (intel i8x0) Logitech Z-640 speakers The steps I've taken: Get a 2.6.4 kernel, select Sound Support (M), ALSA (M), OSS API Emulation, and under PCI devices, intel i8x0. You can see my lsmod below. I have libasound2, gamixer, alsa-utils, alsa-base. Turned the mixer volumes up. The good: I finally eliminated staticy sound by running alsaconf. Surround sound in xine by choosing 5-channel in the audio tab in xine. The bad: The surround sound isn xine is "messed up." More specifically, the front speaker output is coming out the two surrounds, and the surround is coming out the front... can't tell if center is even on in this mode xmms, even when using the ALSA 1.2.9 output plugin, doesn't turn on the surround speakers, though the front ones and the sub sound fine. trying, on a sample surround .wav, aplay -Dsurround51 test.wav yields: Playing WAVE './downloads/audio_sample/test.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo Warning: rate is not accurate (requested = 44100Hz, got = 48000Hz) please, try the plug plugin (-Dplug:surround51) aplay: set_params:882: Can't use period equal to buffer size (5461 == 5461) Then aplay -Dplug:surround51 test.wav gives Playing WAVE './downloads/audio_sample/test.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo aplay: set_params:882: Can't use period equal to buffer size (5017 == 5017) Any idea what could be wrong here? Do i need an asoundrc? If so, which one? I took the basic one off the soundcard matrix on alsa-project for the intel i8x0 chipset (its very basic, like 12 lines) Known issues with the A7N8X board? My lsmod: snd_pcm_oss 48548 - snd_mixer_oss 16960 - nvidia 2069832 - hid 22848 - snd_intel8x0 28804 - snd_ac97_codec 59652 - snd_pcm 86404 - snd_timer 21092 - snd_page_alloc 9124 - snd_mpu401_uart 5984 - snd_rawmidi 20000 - snd_seq_device 6248 - snd 45220 - soundcore 6752 - Those are the sound ones... Pretty sure i have the right physical connections. Green black orange from speakers to line out (green), rear (violet), center/lfe (orange). Plus, I'm pretty sure they were working in windows at some point too... -- Luke StClair [EMAIL PROTECTED] PGP key: http://www.students.uiuc.edu/~clairst ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of GenToo technologies.
