KsCD simply instructs your CD drive to start playing. If there isn't
a cable between the analog output of the CD drive and the CD input on
the motherboard, you won't hear anything. In that case, you have to
use a plugin/program that can extract the digital audio data from the
CD and play it through the sound card.

Hi, I'm back from my trip.

Audio CDs played just fine right up until I unloaded the OSS drivers and loaded the ALSA drivers. The computer hasn't been opened or moved at all, so I think it's highly unlikely that the cable got disconnected.

Given that I was changing drivers, the problem most likely came from some mistake I made, such as removing one driver too many. OSS emulation perhaps?

Thanks,
Steve
