I do not think I would trust M-Audio as to the state of Linux,
especially as they seem particularly obnoxious where Linux is concerned.

Uh, well, that is subject to interpretation. This seems like a police man
stopping you and saying your were going 2mph over the speed limit. Yes,
you broke the law, which says the speed limit is the limit. But I think
almost anyone would get pretty upset if a policeman did that.

The question is whether or not the usb software writers can predict some
of the stupidities of manufacturers and write the software so as to work
even thought the manufacturer messes up.

As I understand this this a "mislabeling" problem, one if taken
literally could result in overwriting the ends of an array. There would
seem to be two reactions-- kill anything that does that, or make the
array larger. Yes, the latter "wastes" memory, but is the memory wasted
really that precious a resource?

I may misunderstand the problem entirely, such that it is impossible to
write a USB bus driver which could compensate for maudio or other manufacturer's
 stupididty. But an
overstrict interpretation of the rules seems an inappropriate reaction
of writers (especially since Linux USB itself seems to have some
peculiarities of its own).
