Hello everyone!

I encountered an ALSA problem which I chose to share with the [Alsa-user]
list 2 weeks ago, after having takled the problem a few months, but I still
haven't got any answer whether it is a known bug/configuration problem or
anything else.
I am willing to provide any further information, but I would be really
thankful if anyone could have a peek at the problem described below:

Thank you very much,

Alex Marandon

Objet : [Alsa-user] intel8x0 - SPDIF output (not again!)

Hello list!

I am currently running Debian Sid on a Shuttle SB61G2 featuring a
shuttle FB61 mainboard with intel 865G chipset (Northbridge) and intel
ICH5 (southbridge).
The audio chipset is a 5.1 channel AC97 2.2 compliant : Realtek ALC650.
(see lspci output below)

I "slipstreamed" alsa-drivers-1.0.0rc2 into the kernel 2.6.0 source (to
circumvent the "CONFIG_HAVE_PDE already defined" during compilation
problems, like it is explained in the wiki :
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=AlsaBuild2.6
for those who ask), and I compiled the intel8x0 as a module.

I added to modules.conf the lines (see below), and I created the
.asoundrc file in ~ (see below)

Everything worked fine, I get sound through the jack output without any
problems.
I wanted to use the spdif output, and I checked for the device number in
/proc/asound/pcm (see below) which was 4 (btw, it was 1 before in
0.9.7c, is this normal?).

When I try :

        aplay -D hw:0,0 [file] - (jack output)

the file actually plays ('Playing [file] Signed 16 bit Little Endian')
and when I try :

        aplay -D hw0:4 [file] - (IEC958 spdif output)

I get the ('Playing [file] Signed 16 bit Little Endian') output but
without sound, and after 5-10 seconds I get the error:

        aplay:pcm_write:1083: write error: Input/output error

I added various output below, but if you need any other file output,
just ask, and I'll gladly add them to the list.

Thank you for reading this mail,

Alex Marandon
