Hi,
I faced a problem trying to get sound using ICH5 based motherboard.
chipset - i875p (ICH5),
ac-97 codec - Realtek 658,
distr. RH Enterprise Linux 3,
kernel 2.4.21,
alsa-driver 1.0.1,
kernel module used: snd-intel8x0,
mixer: gnome-alsamixer,
5.1 analog speakers attached to back panel jacks.
master & pcm unmuted, but there`s no sound on front channels (speakers connected to line-out jack).
when playing something (using xmms with alsa-xmms plugin or gxine) the only way to hear sound is to set "Duplicate Front" and unmute Surround. Then the sound comes from rear speakers (only rear).
When playing DVD (mplayer dvd://1 -v -aid 128 -ao alsa9 -channels 6) with LFE, Center and Surround unmuted and "Line in as Surround" and "mic as Center/LFE" set gives sound on the central speaker, subwoffer and rear speakers, but NO sound from front speakers.
