What codec do you have (see the first line of
/proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0)?

This controller is supported by snd-intel8x0.

This is some undocumented DSP used for AC3 decoding and such stuff.
The "Via" in the description string of this PCI ID is a bug.
