i have compiled alsa and my sound card driver into my 2.6.1 kernel and i can't get the
sound working, it is the onboard sound card for the asus p4c800-e deluxe mother board
witch appears to use the i8x0 sound card, i have patched the kernel with the newest
alsa kernel patch, i have nothing in the modules.conf file so if i have to put
something there plese tell me, i have compiled the alsa-lib and alsa-utils and
installed them, do i have to install the other stuff for it to work?

i have changed the volumes with alsamixer so everything is about 50%, alsaconf finds
no cards, cat /proc/asound/cards says this:
0 [ICH5 ]: ICH - Intel ICH5
                     Intel ICH5 at 0xfebfb800, irq 17

xmms plays nothing, opening a file shows it playing the sound but nothing happens,
kaboodle does the same thing

games say this
armyops:
        open /dev/[sound/]dsp: No such device
et:
------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: No such device
Could not open /dev/dsp
------------------------------------

plese someone help me get sound
