It looks like I'm having trouble locating the right driver to download! I thought the file to work with was ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2. (Although I'll be honest, at this point, I'm not even sure if 'tar xfvz alsa...' will unpack a tar.bz2 file.) I know I tried earlier, and something didn't work (although I forget at the point it failed. I've been trying to get a lot of things up and running, so I'm learning a *lot* of stuff, and covering a lot of ground at the moment...) It sounds like I'm working with the wrong file -- mind giving me a pointer to the correct file? I just went back to the site, and I still don't see anything for the "ESS ES1879" chipset specifically. So I'm probably missing something fairly basic... (I'm a relative newbie to admining Linux boxes, although I've been using the internet and Unix as a user (and tech support guy, but only a little admin/ops stuff) since before the web came about.)
